125 000 – that is the amount of audit days performed by the DQS Group in 2018, covering more than 65.000 sites around the world. That means that on an average working day, there were 498 DQS auditors in the field – more than ever before.

Organic growth in almost all business sectors and regions: that is how you can summarize the business year of the DQS Group. Clients in more than 130 countries have encouraged us once again to pursue our mission: to provide value-adding assessments in order to guide organizations toward sustainable success.

Dr. Sied Sadek, CEO of the DQS CFS GmbH commented as follows: “With such great results, all we can do is say is thank you. Thank you to our more than 2500 international auditors and experts from almost all industry branches, for delivering excellence so consistently. Thank you to our employees, for giving it their best every day. And, last but not least, thank you, our clients, for your interest, for your trust and for your loyalty.”

What will the future bring?

When asked about the future of DQS, Dr. Sadek specifically emphasized the transition to a more sustainable economy as a growth driver: “Climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals are a collective challenge we can only tackle together. This requires trust: Trust, that products are sustainable across the entire lifecycle, that organisations report transparently about their sustainability record, that business partners ensure compliance with human rights, that consumer safety is given, etc. It is exactly in these areas that DQS as an independent third party can make a valuable contribution.”

Since 2004, the FAMI-QS Code of Practice has provided requirements for implementing measures necessary to ensure feed safety and quality. By the end of June 2019, its scope will be extended with the introduction of a mandatory new module: The food fraud prevention and defense module. What, when and how? In the following article, we will resolve these questions.

In the past years, numerous scandals in the worldwide food and feed sector have hit the front pages. This highlights the need to take fraud prevention seriously. Corporations and regulators both know that trust is the foundation upon which efficient, functioning markets are built. For this reason there is a need to take precautions against fraud and terror attacks.

At the moment FAMI-QS does not provide methods to routinely detect or mitigate feed fraud and terror attacks on operators’ systems or processes. With the introduction of the FAMI-QS fraud prevention and defense module this is about to change. The goal of the new module is to ensure that operators adhering to the FAMI-QS Code of Practice can implement an auditable system that demonstrates their ability to manage and effectively mitigate the risk of feed fraud and terror.

The FAMI-QS feed fraud prevention and defense module

The FAMI-QS feed fraud prevention and defense module includes:

  • Requirements: These are mandatory measures for operators to adhere to the feed fraud prevention and defense module.
  • Guidance: The guidance section, following the requirements, includes background information, additional explanations and methods to support operators in implementing the requirements.
  • Templates: For the implementation of the FAMI-QS feed fraud prevention and defense module, FAMI-QS developed specific templates that the operators shall use. The templates will guide you through the process, to develop your vulnerability and fraud assessments. In addition, these templates will support the auditing process.
  • Training: FAMI-QS will provide a dedicated training for the implementation of the FAMI-QS feed fraud prevention and defense module. The delivery module for the training will be a blend including eLearning, exams and one day classroom training. The participation in the training is mandatory with a minimum one participant per certified organization. The training will be delivered across the following regions: Australia, Brazil, China, Europe, India and South East Asia. Specific announcements per region will follow.

Given the complexity of the topic, FAMI-QS gives a three years transition period to achieve compliance with the requirements. This period starts with the publication of the feed fraud prevention and defense module which is expected at the end of June 2019.

In the next FAMI-QS Code version 6.0, the requirements of this feed fraud prevention and defense module will be integrated into the code.

Please note: During the audit against version 6.0, the Operator must be able to demonstrate to their auditor their action plan to approach feed fraud and feed defense. It is important that not only the Quality Department is involved in the process but also other functions e.g.: sales purchasing, top management.

What DQS can do for you

DQS is an approved certification body for FAMI-QS. With a global network of highly qualified auditors, we are ready to assist all over the globe.

DQS certificates put quality under IMPOL’s wings

DQS Zagreb d.o.o. is proud to announce the certification of IMPOL Group to EN 9100:2018

IMPOL is a long-standing and successful manufacturer of high quality aluminum alloys for the civil aircraft industry. Its advanced technology allows the co-founder of The Centre of Excellence Space-SI to provide aluminum alloys and parts that are able to sustain extreme vibrations when satellites are launched, followed by thermal stress and radiation in space. And because quality attracts quality, IMPOL decided to put the certification to one of the most demanding industry standards, EN 9100 for the aerospace industry, into the hands of DQS.

Preparations for this multi-company, cross-country certification of one of the biggest Slovenian companies with 2348 employees located across Slovenia, Croatia and Serbia started in 2017 already. The audits were carried out with the support of highly specialized aerospace auditors from Germany and in May 2019, DQS was able to confirm that the the management systems of IMPOL Group members IMPOL d.o.o., IMPOL LLT d.o.o., IMPOL PCP d.o.o., IMPOL- FINAL d.o.o., IMPOL R in R d.o.o., te IMPOL 2000 d.o.o. fulfill the requirements of EN 9100:2018.

The picture shows, from left: Andrej Kolmanič (CEO IMPOL Group), Irena Šela (CFO IMPOL Group), and Darko Hibler (CEO DQS Zagreb) at the presentation of the well earned certificate. Now that IMPOL is registered in the OASIS database of certified aerospace suppliers, the Group hopes for more opportunities for product placement on the demanding aerospace industry market.

IMPOL Group is also becoming an established supplier in the automotive industry and pursuing opportunities in other demanding industries, such as the aerospace industry. These efforts are made on both the investment and the organizational level. Equipment investments amount to approximately 40 million Euros every year. The Group also continuously works on efficient organisation so as to ensure the production of demanding high-quality products.

The certification opens further opportunities on the challenging high-quality products market and the certificate itself strengthens the IMPOL Group brand. The OASIS database will also help increase the Group’s visibility in the aerospace industry and the production restructuring facilitate the achievement of greater added value.

DQS, CFS and ISO united in the Fight against Climate Change

Droughts, floods and record-breaking temperatures – it certainly looks like we are heading right into a climate catastrophe. Presumably, 2019 will be another record year in terms of CO2 emissions – the concentration will be at the highest point since 400.000 years ago. It’s news like these that confirm the urgent need for coordinated action, on the ground and in standardization work. Here’s some of what we are doing.

DQS CFS has been approved to verify Climate Bonds according to the Climate Bonds Standard.

The Climate Bonds Certification applies to bonds that are consistent with the 2 degrees Celsius warming limit of the Paris Agreement. As an approved verifier, we will be providing assurance to issuers and investors that bonds contribute to a low-carbon economy. The Climate Bonds Initiative places high demand not only on their own product but as well on their verifiers, which makes us particularly proud of this achievement by our subsidiary. More

Moving up to the standardization level, the CEO of DQS CFS, Dr. Sied Sadek, has been nominated as a member of the ISO Committee on environmental labelling. The committee is focused on standardization in the field of communication of environmental aspects of products and services. Such communication includes environmental labels and claims like e.g. carbon footprint declarations.

The standardization of terms and concepts is an important step towards sustainability, as it enhances comparability and prevents greenwashing. The clear definition of terms is also a basis for a healthy development in the area of Sustainable Finance. Both the German government as well as the European Union have declared that they intend to grow in this area. Without intelligent and effective environmental labelling, this development won’t be possible. We are pleased that Dr. Sadek will actively support this important cause as a member of the ISO Committee. More

This is alswhere International Standards ISO 14064-2   and ISO14064- 3 prove their value. ISO 14064-2 is used to quantify the   amount of reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or removal   enhancements, while ISO 14064-3 serves to verify reports developed using 14064-2 and other project-level GHG quantification.

The standards are applicable to any project in any sector or region or organizational size/type and support the harmonization of GHG tracking and valuation, which will support consistency and comparability needed by stakeholders, especially investors. More information can be found here.

Quality in logistics – trained by TAPA, certified by DQS

Quality in logistics – trained by TAPA, certified by DQS Transportation, warehousing and distribution – safe and certified. Reliable drivers, controlled temperatures, and the safety of transports and IT systems are some of the major concerns among logistics service providers these days.
